Tamil New Year In Prasanthi Nilayam…

The infinitely auspicious Sri Rama Navami today also coincides with Puthandu Vazthukal, the Tamil New Year Day. After the sacrosanct Sita-Rama Kalyanam this morning, in the evening the Tamil Nadu contingent of devotees presented a garland of Carnatic songs, offered by Ms. Gayathri Venkataraghavan from Chennai.

‘A’ top grade accredited artiste of All India Radio with many accomplishments, Ms. Gayathri began the day with ‘Namo Namo Raghukula Nayaka…’ and followed on, singing “Brocheva Ravarura…”,  ”Rama Bhaja Rama Bhaja Janama Si Rath Hai…” to name a few, ending with the famed “Kurai Ondrum Illai…”. This evening she was accompanied by Ms. Nalina Mohan on Violin,  Mr. Manoj Shiva on Mridangam, BS Purushothaman on Khanjeera, Ms. R. Amrita Varshini and Ms. Alkiya Krishna on Tanpura.

The day that began with the Ram Navami flavour continued its run with the concert giving the completing touch with an exclusive ‘Rama Concert’, concluding in style with the much popular ‘Kurai Ondrum…’

Earlier, the session commenced at 1700 hrs. with regular Rudram chanting, today done by Tamil Nadu Mahilas. Session next commenced with a mini-function announcing the induction of 11 new bhajan mandalis along with 5 new samithis. Sri RJ Ratnakar, Trust Member with SSSCT felicitated the office bearers of the concerned units in presence of the State Presidents of SSSSO – TN.
