Musical Offering By Pt Srinivas Joshi…

Ashadi Eve got an enlivening musical impetus in Prasanthi today, as accomplished musician and the heir of legendary Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Srinivas Joshi enthralled the OmniPresent Supreme Divine serenading Him for over an hour this evening in the hallowed Prasanthi Nilayam. On to the 4th session of the three-day Ashadi Parthi Yatra, the musical offering this evening by a combined Maharashtra & Goa served as an apt precursor to the holy Ashadi Ekadashi which is just a few hours apart.

Commencing the proceedings at 1700 hrs., the Pandit started off with a Hindustani classical singing “Beeth Gaye…” before drifting into devotional music in varied languages. “Jai Jai RamaKrishna Hari…”, the ‘soul-beat’ of the varkaris and the entire Marata land resounded in profusion with the next piece under the same title,  followed by a piece by Master Viraj, serenading the great ‘Marata’ Saint, St Jnaneshwar, a song popular with Pt Bhimsen Joshi. “Majhe Maher Pandhari…” popular abhang that followed next was a piece on the exalted devotion of the Maratas on Lord Vittala Rakhumai. Master Viraj came up with “Anuraneeyam…”, an abhang on St Thukkaram next before a scintillating “Baaje Re Muraliya Baaje…” by the senior artiste. The famous Kannada kriti “Soubhagyata Lakshmi Varamma…” turned out to be a short and sweet entreat to The Divine before the final and concluding piece, a Sai Bhajan, that the legendary Bhimsen Joshi had sung many times in Bhagawan’s immediate physical Presence, “Jaya Panduranga Prabho Vittala…”

Pt Srinivas is an artiste who realised his musical calling much later, but never stopped once he found his inner ‘musical’ calling. This evening, Prasanthi Nilayam witnessed the musical charisma of that heir, of the illustrious, incomparable legend, who rained Prasanthi with golden musical showers. Apt precursor to the Holy Ashadi Ekadashi.

This evening, the artiste was accompanied by Sarvasree Jayant Naidu on Tanpura, Satish Kohli on Harmonium, Sai Chand and Prajapathi on Pakhwaj and Talam alongwith Nishikant Barodekar on Tabla. Master Viraj Joshi, son of Srinivas Joshi, rendered able vocal support.

As bhajans by the Maharashtra & Goa devotees continued, the artiste along with accompanists were felicitated. The session concluded with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.
