Justice Venkatachalaiah appointed Chancellor Of SSSIHL

Former CJI, Justice M.N Venkatachaliah has been appointed as the Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning, deemed to be University. Justice Manepalli Narayana Rao Venkatachaliah (born October 25, 1929)  will be the third  Chancellor of the Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL).He succeeds Justice Bhagavathi who has resigned due to ill health.

Justice Venkatachaliah who was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian Honour conferred by the President of India in 2004, was the 25th Chief Justice of India.He earned his Bachelor in Science and Bachelor in Law from the University of Mysore. He started practicing law in 1951. He has also been conferred the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) by the Pondicherry University and the Doctor of Laws (LL.D) (honoris causa) by the Manipal University in 2012.

He was appointed Permanent Judge of the High Court of Karnataka on 6th November 1975. He was elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 5th October 1987. Finally, he became the  Chief Justice of India on 12 February 1993 . He served as the Chairman of National Human Rights Commission from 1996-1998 and in 2000 he headed National Commission to review the working of the Constitution.

He is also the former Pro Chancellor of the Delhi University,former Chancellor of the National Law School  of India University and the Central University of Hyderabad.

Post retirement, he has continued to work on anti-corruption and human rights issues, including support for the launch of the Initiatives of Change Centre for Governance in 2003. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of Foundation for Restoration of National Values, a society established in 2008 that strives to restore National and Cultural Values of India.

Justice Venkatachaliah has been a devotee of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba for many years.
