All India Economic Conference

An All India Economics Conference entitled, Economic Challenges: Global and National Perspectives was conducted by the Department of Economics, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthi Nilayam:between February 23-25. The conference examined economic problems from a global perspective while considering India’s role and evolve solutions that befit the nature, depth and applicability of these problems.

This conference was inaugurated by Prof. V. Pandit, Former Vice-Chancellor of SSSIHL. Dwelling on the theme of escalating economic disparities, he emphasized in his address the need for the world community to think in terms of adopting a life style that is simple but with high values for which the Revered Founder Chancellor of the Institute has given a great emphasis. Prof. S. Mahendra Dev, Director, IGIDR, Mumbai, formally, Chairman, Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission, Government of India, in his Key-note address discussed at length the gap between the theoretical perception and practical application of the Inclusive Growth strategy in India and offered practical solutions for its success.

Under the Invited Lecture Series, Shri. A.V.Gokak, Former Vice-chancellor of SSSIHL, Prof. V.M.Rao, Hon. Prof. ISEC, Bangalore, formerly, Member, Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission, Government of India, Shri. S. Krishnaswamy, Energy Expert, Dallas, TX, USA. and Prof. G.Venkataraman, a renowned Scientist and Former Vice-Chancellor of SSSIHL spoke . Special Lectures were organized in which eight senior professional economists spoke at length. During the three days, five Technical Sessions were conducted in which thirty eight papers were presented under various heads of which sixteen papers were from the Department of Economics, SSSIHL. Prof. K.Ramakrishna Reddy, Vice-chancellor, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, gave the valedictory address.
