Usha’s Dream – Dance Drama by Assam Devotees….

Adopting the theme of the famous drama – Sonitkuari – by legendary Late Jyoti Prasad Agarwala of Assam, Parthi Yatra contingent from the State presented a beautiful dance drama offering entitled “Usha’s Dream” this evening here at the Sanctum Sanctorum in Prasanthi Nilayam.
The story-line goes back to ancient Tezpur of Assam, depicting the “Love-Tale” of Princess Usha, daughter of the demon King Bana. In a befitting finale, the drama, full of dance and song sequences coupled with climactic events, ends with the Princess marrying her love, Aniruddha, grandson of Lord Krishna.
The Storyline: Usha was a charming, beautiful Princess, the only daughter of demon King Bana, who ruled Tezpur, a beautiful city in the far east of India, earlier known as Sonitpur. Chitralekha, daughter of one of the ministers, an adept in painting, magic and dance, was a close friend of the Princess. King Bana, who was very much attached to his beautiful daughter, apprehended any harm and kept her under ‘house arrest’ in a place called ‘Agnigarh’ – surrounded by fire. The Princess was a great devotee of Mother Goddess.
Appeased by the Princess, Mother Goddess assured Usha vide a dream that she would soon get a handsome prince as her husband. Failed to comprehend who her would be bridegroom was, Usha with the help of Chitralekha got the portraits of most of the available Kings and Princess, but to no avail, until Chitralekha showed her a final picture of Lord Krishna. Usha’s dream boy was a facsimile of Lord Krishna, who was none other than Aniruddha, grandson of Lord Krishna. Upon repeated persuasion from the Princess, Chithralekha finally managed to bring Aniruddha, vide her enticing magical tricks, into the fort only to solemnize the dream union.
Earlier the drama presentation was preceded by Ganesh Vandana and a Raas Leela dance, to the tune of the popular “Radhe Radhe… Barsaanewale Radhe… “ song.
Bhajans continued and ended with Managala Arathi at 1820 hrs. The Parthi Yatra is being organised by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations – Assam.
