First evening of the week-long ’93rd Year Of Advent’ celebrations featured a unique Carnatic Violin offering by famed Padmashri Sangeeta Kalanidhi Ms Kanyakumari, joined by 24 musicians, both men and women today here, in Prasanthi Nilayam.
Born in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, Ms Kanyakumari had her musical tutelage from three legendary maestros, including Dr. ML Vasantha Kumari. With 55 years of rich experience in the field, Ms Kanyakumari has travelled extensively in India and abroad carrying her musical prowess, touching hearts many. This evening Ms Kanyakumari began with a Kriti propitiating Lord Ganesha, a Muthuswami Dikshitar composition. Rest of her selections for the evening were all picked from the Divine ‘wish’ list of blessed compositions. The repertoire included Rama Nannu Brovara…, Rara Mayintididaka…, a specially composed Sai Namavali with vocal support, composed in 5 ragas, Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram… to name a few.
The accomplished artist remained engrossed in strumming her blessed violin for The Lord Supreme, ably supported by a host of musicians, transforming the evening turned twilight into a musical delight with her touch of expertise, discipline, dedication, simplicity and unparalleled devotion. Sarvasree Bangalore Praveen Kumar on mridangam, B. Rajasekhar on morsingh, Ganesh Rao on tabla, Abhishek on vocal along with ten male and female violinists accompanied the celebrity artist making the concert a memorable one. The packed Prasanthi house sat in, soaking in the bliss of an enrapturing evening of rare musical delight.
Bhajans next ended with Mangala Arathi to Beloved Bhagawan.
