Onam 2016 – Day 2

Ongoing Onam festivity by the Kerala contingent this evening featured a talk by Hon Justice Ms Anu Sivaraman of the Kerala High Court followed by a traditional musical offering by  Sadguru Kulam, Kozhikode district. Speaking on the subject ‘The Importance Of Bhagawan’s Mission In The Current Scenario’,  the speaker urged the audience to break the walls in the minds to have a united world. The honourable speaker also touched upon the significance of Onam, mixing up her talk with Bhagawan’s teachings.

A virulent, enchanting devotional session ensued next, led by Sri Sanal Kumar Varma along with Sarvasree Subash Chandran and Jai Raja presenting traditional ‘Sampradaya’ bhajans. Sampradaya Bhajan is a traditional art of bhajan singing, more popular in South India, a tradition, as the name suggests, is handed down by one’s ancestors and is considered to be the forerunner of modern day Carnatic music concerts.

Beginning with traditional invocation of various God forms, Sri Varma started off with a Narayana bhajan, an inciting number, flowing on to singing a collection of devotional numbers with electrifying passion, engaging Bhagawan and the audience for over an hour. His numbers included, alongside Krishna, Mother Divine as Goddess Of Kollur Mookambika, Ganesha, Subramania, and some interesting variants of Sai bhajans.

The accompanists for the evening included  Unnikrishnan on Harmonium, Dr VR Narayana Prakash on Mridangam, Sri Biju on Tabla, Sri Giri Sahai on Dholak, Sri Sai Anand on Elaththalam, Sarvasree Sreejith, Bijesh, Jayesh, Amal Prakash, Ranjith, Angeeras and Rajesh on vocal support.

Bhajans next ended with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.
