As part of Guru Pournima 2015 celebrations Balvikas children from Manipur presented twin dance offering this evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam.
Beginning the offering, the first programme was Maibis Ritual Dance of the Lal Haroba festival of Manipur. Typical dance movements of the Maibis, the priestesses, to the backdrop tune of Manipuri folklore music, symbolizes awakening the deity from slumber, signifying both Divine and human manifestations.
The second and final offering was Khamba Thoibi, one of the most popular dance forms of Manipur, a duet dance with two most popular mythological characters immortalised in a popular folklore. The dance form describes the story of a poor and brave lad of the Khuman Clan of Khamba who fell in love with a girl Thoibi, a princess of Moirang. The danced presentation is made to the Goddess Thangjing as a dedicated offering.
Clad in colourful costumes, the little children danced gracefully at the Sanctum Sanctorum, depicting the legendary story with the aid of backdrop songs and music, evoking serene pristine feeling of Manipuri Culture.
Bhajans continued and the session ended with Mangala Arathi at 1615 hrs.
