Tuesday, October 14th, 2014
As we are aware, severe cyclonic storm “Hudhud”, made its landfall at Vishakapatnam, causing intense damage to precious lives, live stock and properties in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, more so in Vishakapatnam.
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s organisations have always been in the forefront, leading by example, reaching out to the distressed anywhere and everywhere, with life-saving and life-boosting aid and support. following His dictum “Love All, Serve All and Help Ever, Hurt Never”.
As soon as reports started coming in on the possibility of Hudhud striking Vishakhapatnam and adjoining areas, the SSSSO started procuring materials to be ready to start relief operations. Yesterday, SSSSO distributed thousands of water sachets, biscuits, and buns as an immediate relief measure.
Realizing the scarcity of food materials in Vizag, SSSSO has commenced sourcing from adjacent districts. Today two lorries have reached Vizag from Rajahmundry containing 75000 water sachets, 400 kg milk powder, 122000 biscuits, 5000 buns, 1000 big wax candles, and 300 match boxes. Further supplies are being arranged from other districts. Food packets are also being prepared and distributed.
SSSSO has trained volunteers in Disaster Management and Relief. The Vizag units are in action rendering assistance to the affected persons.
Close coordination is being maintained with the office of the District Collector to focus the relief operations. As requested by them, the SSSSO is extending its relief operations into nearby rural areas also.
SSSSO has a strong presence in all districts of AP and this helps in mobilizing manpower and materials. Its units in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram have also commenced the relief work.
SSSSO units in nearby states have also been alerted to send relief materials to the affected areas in AP.
Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust has sent funds immediately to the SSSSO units to assist in the relief work. Further funds as required will also be sent.
