Grand Finale Of Ramayana Saptaham…
Friday, September 19th, 2014
Marking the grand finale of the week-long Ramayana Saptaham, students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning along with students from Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College Of Music presented a soulful musical evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam today.
The week-long Ramayana Saptaham is an annual feature, ahead of Dasara celebrations, at the Institute, with learned seniors sharing words of wisdom on selected spiritual topics. This year’s Saptaham, on the greater efficacy of Ramayana, commenced with an overall preview on the topic, Ramayana, by Prof Gangadhar Sastry and was followed by talks by eminent seniors on the following days. Musical offerings by the students from the Institute and Music College followed every day. The seniors who spoke were Sarvasri Bhavani Shankar, K Sridharan, Chelli Janardhanan, Vijaya Sarathi, Vijay Kumar and T Hariharan.
This evening, the programme commenced at 1650 hrs., after regular Rudram chanting, with a brief introduction on the programme. The musical programme that ensued had some of the most beautiful Carnatic compositions on Lord Rama. Beginning with the famous Swathi Thirunal composition “Bhavayami Raghuramam…” graceful students went on singing paeans to Sai Rama with some of the popular Carnatic numbers, “Bhajaman Rama Charan Sukhdai…”, “Sree Ram… Sree Ram…”, “Marivere…”etc. Interspersed with lucid commentary on the efficacy of “Rama… Ramayana…and Sai Rama…” the programme with rich in-house talent turned out to be a rare spiritual feast and a fitting finale for the Ramayana week observance.
An all Rama bhajan session followed and ended with ‘Thursday Special’ in Bhagawan’s Golden Voice – “Rama Kodanda Rama…”.
Mangala Arathi at 1815 hrs. marked the end of the day’s proceedings.
