Global Akhanda Bhajan Today…
Saturday, November 9th, 2013
Annual Global Akhanda Bhajan 2013 will commence this evening at 1800 hrs. in Sai Kulwant Hall, Prasanthi Nilayam. The 24- hour Bhajans will culminate on tomorrow, 10 November, evening at 1800 hrs. with Mangala Arathi.
Global Akhanda Bhajan, the timeless intonation promoting Universal Peace and Harmony is one of the most significant and far-reaching annual spiritual exercise initiated by Bhagawan way back in the mid forties. Ever since, every second week-end of the month of November has been a fixed schedule for this 24 hour marathon non-stop bhajan saga.
This practice started in 1944, in the home of the late Dr. R.S. Padmanabhan of Bangalore, where nine families met in the presence of Bhagawan to conduct the Bhajan.
From that humble beginning attended by over 150 devotees, now it has grown into a global scale, conducting bhajans every year simultaneously (at the scheduled hour based on various time zones) at Sai centres all over India and in 126 countries in the world.
This is in keeping with Bhagawan’s perception expressed during a discourse in 1986: “We are having non-stop 24-hr. global devotional singing by Sai devotees all over the world. This is being done not for the sake of one individual, one nation or one community. It is for the welfare of humanity as a whole.”
