Whitefield, Bangalore: 17 November 2012: A one-day Conference on “Implementing IT to enhance patient care quality” was conducted at the Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, yesterday. Several eminent practitioners shared their experience.
while delivering the inaugural address, observing that Information Technology is playing an increasingly important role in the field of health care, Principal Secretary for Information Technology and Bio-technology, Government of Karnataka, Mr I.S.N. Prasad declared: “We don’t have an escape from the fact that the evolution of technology in health care will see a geometric progression in the coming decade. So we should be ready for it, gear up for it and accept it for the cause of human good.” He further added that never in his experience has he come across any hospital, which had a spiritual background but was not shy of implementing modern technology and commended not only on the free service to the patients provided by the hospital but also the admirable IT Infrastructure built by the SSSIHMS.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Director of SSSIHMS, Whitefield, Dr Swarna Bharadwaj while outlining the implementation of IT in the hospital, mentioned that it had helped in reducing the patient waiting time by streamlining the procedures, increased accountability, reduced the errors, facilitated remote patient-physician interaction through telemedicine among others. Dr Bharadwaj added that the hospital with the help of IT had become completely paperless and filmless apart from already being a bill-less hospital, referring to the totally free treatment being provided to all the patients.
Dr Voleti Choudary, Director, SSSIHMS, Puttaparthi elaborated on the various aspects of utilization of IT in Sathya Sai Healthcare Institutions and emphasized on the importance of team work between IT professionals and clinicians. He said that Hospital has achieved level 6 out of 7 levels of adoption of EMR as per Hospital Information and Management Society Systems (HIMSS).
The one-day conference was attended by over 140 delegates across the country and had faculty members drawn across the spectrum of IT professionals in the health care sector from India and abroad. The seminar was spread across four sessions consisting of use of IT to improve quality of patient care, Health care IT implementation experiences, solutions for distant access to care and education and workforce training.
